- Vacuum your computer. It may sound strange but Computers suck in dust, then overheat & slow down. Make sure you remove the power cable before you begin. Twice a year should do.
- Defrag your hard drive to Keep all your files intact.
- Uninstall unwanted Programs you don't use to free up your RAM & storage.
- Remove MSN Messenger. Go to Start,Run type the following text "RunDll32advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection%windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove"
- Delete all the files from the Prefetch folder. You can find this folder in the Windows Folder.
- Switch off Windows Visual Effects. They may look nice but slow your computer down.
- Stop unwanted Apps from Loading. Run MSConfig & Switch off Unnecessary Applications from starting up automatically.
- Switch off unwanted Services - Using MSConfig, switch off Unnecessary Services.
- Switch off System Restore. It doesn't work that well, & switching it off speeds things up.
- Clean things up with Crap Cleaner. Download & install this great free application
- Remove Internet Security Programs such as Symantec & McAfae. Both these programs swallow up system resources & offer little more functuality than is included in Windows.
- Install AVG Antivirus for Free. Why pay for Antivirus Protection? Grisoft offer AVG AntiVirus for free for Home Users.
- Run a Registry Cleaner. The Registry is the heart of Windows, keep it in good condition. Try this one for free
- Buy & install more RAM (Memory). Look for extra memory for your computer here
- Add a 2nd Hard Disk. An extra disk increases capacity but can also speed up your computer.
